I too have thoughts

This little corner of the blog-o-sphere features thinking and writing about romance fiction and the genre’s place in the broader English literary canon. In focusing on some of the highly popular romance fiction of the moment, and trends within the US publishing market, there are certainly going to be works and areas of the field that are not covered. This project intends to inspect a specific slice of literary and popular culture, without being indiciative of the whole. This is an ongoing, personal education project/journal that I’m sharing with friends, and I’ll be learning in real time. I reserve the right to change my mind about any conclusions I think I’ve come to over the course of this lol.

This is a blog about romance novels.

Lately I’ve found myself reading a lot of romance, and reading a lot of literature about romance. I want to know, how does the genre work? Why is this genre so fun, even when characters are two-dimensional, or make choices that are so deranged that you end up wondering if the author has ever actually met another person in their whole life? And why do I enjoy reading these so much even if I find myself groaning at The Gender of It All?
